High Gothic is the formal, liturgical language of the Imperium of Man in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Frequently asked questions

Is this canonical High Gothic?

Games Workshop has never published a full High Gothic grammar — the language is intentionally fragmentary in canon. Our translator produces the recognizable Imperial-liturgical register seen in Codices and Black Library novels, which is what most fans mean by 'High Gothic'.

Does it use actual Latin?

It uses Latin-flavored phrases (Ave Imperator, Sanctus, ex tenebris) where canon does, but the bulk of output is English in a Latinate cadence — matching how High Gothic actually appears in published 40k material.

Can I use this for published fan work?

How is this different from Low Gothic?
