What is small text?
"Small text" is plain Unicode that happens to render at a smaller height than regular letters. There are three common kinds — superscript (raised letters originally meant for footnote markers and math), subscript (lowered letters meant for chemistry formulas), and small caps (mini uppercase letters from the International Phonetic Alphabet block). All three look like a different size — but they are real text, so they survive being pasted into bios, chats, and game tags.
A note on subscript
Unicode never defined subscript glyphs for many letters (the ones missing are b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y, z, and most uppercase letters). When a letter is missing the generator falls back to the normal character — so subscript output is partial by design, not a bug.
